SSOE is seeking a Civil Engineering Intern - Facilities for Summer 2025.  This position is a hybrid role with a schedule of Mon/Fri remote and Tues/Wed/Thurs in the office onsite at our Birmingham Office.

 

Responsibilities

The following duties are typical of the position, but are not all encompassing. Each person is expected to help out in whatever duties are required to deliver a quality product on schedule and within budget in a team environment.

 

Here are the responsibilities for the Civil Engineering Intern - Facilities position at SSOE:

  • Task Execution: Perform assigned tasks under the close supervision of the Department Manager or designee, following specific and detailed instructions.
  • Knowledge/Projects/Development focus area: Cut/fill analysis, storm drainage, fire, water, sanitary sewer, and erosion control.
  • Training: You’ll receive training in Autodesk Civil 3D, which is essential for civil engineering design. Training may also include Storm and Sanitary Analysis  (SSA) or Infodrainage softwares for stormwater calculations. 
  • Additional Software Experience: You may also gain experience with Infraworks and Navisworks, which are valuable for modeling and project visualization.
  • Basic software Skills: Having basic computer skills, and knowledge of Revit or AutoCAD, is a plus.
  • Standards and Procedures: Learn and apply department standards, methods, and procedures relevant to your field of study.
  • Project Deadlines: Meet various deadlines for daily duties or special projects as assigned by DM or designee.
  • Travel: Occassional local travel may required for client visits as needed.
  • Driver’s License: A valid driver’s license is required, though this may be waived for international assignments.
  • Team Contribution: Assist in various duties as needed to deliver quality products on schedule and within budget in a team environment.

Qualifications

Here are the detailed qualifications for the Civil Engineering Intern - Facilities position at SSOE:

  • Education: Enrollment in an ABET-accredited engineering school, majoring in Civil Engineering or a related technical discipline.
  • Academic Year: Rising Junior or Senior academic year preferred.
  • Professional Experience: Must be registered with the Office of Professional Experience Program or an equivalent program (if applicable).
  • Skills: Demonstrated organizational skills are required.
  • Compensation: The salary range is $20-$23 per hour, depending on your year in school.
