Overview

Within SSOE’s Advanced Technology division, we specialize in high-tech facility design, offering top-tier design and engineering services to a diverse array of clients and markets. Our team is composed of highly skilled and knowledgeable professionals who excel across various disciplines. We pride ourselves on our cross-disciplinary approach, which allows us to understand and address our clients' needs more comprehensively than traditional, siloed methods. What sets us apart is our ability to seamlessly conceptualize, plan, and detail every aspect of design. Our in-house experts collaborate closely, optimizing and enhancing our work through multi-discipline strategy sessions. By leveraging cutting-edge techniques and state-of-the-art software, we deliver industry-leading technology and innovative solutions from day one.

We are seeking a Senior Electrical Designer to join our Tool Install team. This role offers the opportunity to contribute directly to the design and implementation of electrical systems for state-of-the-art industrial and high-tech semiconductor facilities. You will be an integral member of our tool install team, working closely with engineers and other designers to develop comprehensive electrical design packages. Your focus will be on translating engineering concepts and calculations into accurate and constructible drawings and models for low to medium voltage electrical systems.

Responsibilities

  • Generate comprehensive and accurate technical project deliverables, including detailed electrical drawings (e.g., power plans, single-line diagrams, grounding plans, equipment layouts, cable tray layouts, conduit routing), specifications, and alignment with industry standards, client requirements, and engineering design intent.
  • Develop detailed layout drawings for electrical equipment, including panelboards, transformers, switchgear, motor control centers, and lighting fixtures, considering spatial constraints, accessibility for maintenance, and code clearances.
  • Determine efficient and code-compliant routing for conduit, cable trays, and wireways, considering factors such as cable fill, bending radii, support requirements, and coordination with other building systems. Create detailed conduit and cable tray layout drawings.
  • Apply conductor and cable sizing calculations provided by engineers, meticulously determining the appropriate sizes based on current loads, voltage drop limitations, ambient temperatures, and National Electrical Code (NEC) requirements.
  • Assess cable tray and wireway fills based on the number, size, and type of cables to ensure compliance with NEC fill capacity requirements, proper cable management, organization, and provisions for future expansion.
  • Apply established design techniques, drafting standards, and company CAD/BIM standards consistently. Exercise discernment in adapting and modifying design concepts under the guidance of engineers. Participate in quality control reviews of drawings and models to ensure accuracy, completeness, and adherence to standards.
  • Work closely and collaboratively with other Electrical Designers, Senior Electrical Engineers, Project Managers, and other stakeholders (e.g., Mechanical, Structural, Process/Chemical, Architectural) on specific assigned objectives and complex project features. Effectively communicate design-related information and raise potential issues or conflicts proactively.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED is required. An Associate's degree in Electrical Drafting, Electrical Engineering Technology, Architectural Drafting, or a related field is highly preferred.
  • Demonstrated expert proficiency in AutoCAD for the creation of detailed 2D electrical drawings and layouts. This includes a strong understanding of layering conventions, block libraries, external references (Xrefs), and plotting procedures.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in all design and drafting work.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills with the ability to clearly convey design information. The ability to work collaboratively within a team environment and interact professionally with engineers, project managers, and other stakeholders.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to identify and troubleshoot design-related issues and propose potential solutions.
  • Salary Range: $50,000 - $100,000/year depending on location, education, experience, and any certifications that are directly related to the position.
  • Benefits include health, dental, and vision insurance, life insurance, 401K retirement savings plan (with company matching), opportunities for professional development and training, generous PTO & paid holidays.

Join us at SSOE, where your expertise will thrive in a dynamic, collaborative environment dedicated to pushing the boundaries of design and engineering excellence. If you're passionate about innovation and eager to make a significant impact, we invite you to apply and become a part of our forward-thinking team.
